Little Railways of the World

Frederic Shaw has achieved an entirely new approach to the subject of railroading. He presents these tiny railway lines with explanations for their being and fine descriptions of the locale. The author has such affection for the little railways and such great esteem for their builders, that he has included, of course, passages of tribute to the pioneers of this field. The reader with nostalgic leanings will appreciate his chapter about the Cagney brothers. Many of the early Cagney engines are in use today in amusement parks throughout the country. LITTLE RAILWAYS OF THE WORLD also offers generous tidbits of information for model fanciers, along with fine equipment drawings. Primarily, the book shows that the little railways, though of endearing size, have the same struggle for existence as did their larger prototypes. But as survivors of the age of steam they are available for our enjoyment in the here and now.
