Island Creek and Western

The Island Creek and Western Railroad was built by the late Jack West on his estate in Maryland. Carl Purinton used to say it was one of the best he had ever seen.

Yes, the guy in Maryland was the late Jack West. I never went down there, but from all the stories told by guys who did, plus the movies, it was pretty spectacular. Apparently he was very well off. The track circled his extensive property and ran along the oceanfront on the so-called "Eastern Shore". And, yes, it was said to be very hot and humid there in the summer. The track ran past his patio and pool, and you could run in your bathing suit and take a "swim" break now and then. They also served food and drinks poolside.
