Houston, Texas, October 29, 1972. A Gold Spike by Harry Dixon was driven after 4-1/2 years of work by the Houston Live Steamers to celebrate completion of 440 feet of 3-1/2 inch gauge track. 4-3/4 inch gauge rail and steaming bays are next in the work program. Paul DeVerter (far left) and his Juliet II (with Baker value gear) and George Werner (far right) with his Juliet (with slip-eccentric valve gear) touched pilots after Bob Armstrong (middle left) drove the spike with Jake DeVriese (middle right) as official witness to the ceremony. Paul and Betty DeVerter were photographers.
