The Registry

Russia,

3 July 2021

Dear friends:

I’ve added 14 new locos this time around, but also had to delete 17. The first major deletion made a lot of sense: Steve Bratina pointed to 10 locos that were not 3.5”-gauge!

I also took out the listing for the late Harry Quick’s exquisite 4-8-2, Locust Valley #700. James Mardiguian listed on Facebook on 25 April 2021 a photo of this engine and a Pacific in the window of a hardware store in Mahanoy City PA, where Quick lived for a long time. A sign at the bottom of the window clearly states 1”=1’. That makes sense, for #700 looks really big on a photo that was offered on eBay.

The next six deletions are much sadder: A gent in Canada has requested that I take off his six locos – no reason given. Three of them are virtual icons in the history of ¾” live steam. I will indicate in the files if an entry is missing. I shall include the unlisted in my tally totals, which means we still have a positive growth of three this time around – the new total is 637 (my total number is a bit wobbly sometimes).

I must admit that this step seriously cuts into my enthusiasm for the project, for I have wanted to be as complete as possible.

I feel called to announce that this registry project is now half-dead. How could I not make an update, say, if the new PRR 6-8-6 starts whirring around the track down in Cincy-land! I will also want to update if new errors are reported – I can’t stand uncorrected errors. Yet I do not intend though, at least for the time being, to add and update any other files.

Yet the primary reason for this half-death is another: I reside far to the east of Massachusetts and that distance has grown significantly due to Covid and the course of international politics. Does anyone in North America want to take over the project? That would be great. I would agree to help out that person, if desired.

Many thanks to Pat Fahey, Steve Bratina, Keith Taylor and others for their considerable help! A very special thanks to Daris Nevil for being a really great help and pal.

Godspeed to all,

Bill Yoder
